Laser Treatments

Another option to remove a tattoo is via a laser treatment. This process involves using a laser to break up the ink in the tattoo which will then naturally disperse over time.

After multiple treatments, most of those that choose this path do report a substantial visible difference in the appearance of their tattoo.

However, there are some major drawbacks to this process. For example, using a laser treatment is often extremely painful. This is because the laser is extremely hot and essentially burns through the skin. In fact, many of those that choose this path report feeling more pain then when the initial tattoo was applied.

As a result of the burning off of the skin, some patients report the development of scars where their tattoo once was. While modern advancements in this kind of tattoo removal treatment have advanced, it is still possible to develop substantial scarring following a laser treatment.

The other main drawback to using a laser treatment is the cost. This is because most tattoos require multiple visits to effectively erase the tattoo. The cost of each visit can cost upwards of $100-$200. This often adds up to more than $1000 to remove a tattoo.

It should be noted that pre-treating a tattoo using a topical solution such as one of the products listed in our review grid does help reduce the overall cost of removing a tattoo via a laser treatment as a pre-treated tattoo will be easier to remove.
